Memories New & Old
I love all things old. I love the story that I imagine behind them, I love thinking of the fancy parties they may have been a part of… I love pieces full of character and charm. My dear husband has often asked if we could perhaps just buy something new instead of “scouring” for the perfect piece. One day my daughter even proclaimed, “I don’t like character!” Truth be told, she loves character, but at that moment she had associated it with having to look extra long and hard for something when she could be playing with her chickens.

My dining room may be one of my favorite places in our house. I have pieces of china from probably 100 different patterns displayed in my hutch and on the wall. I love thinking of the fabulous dinner parties these pieces were part of and what life must have been like when they were used- mostly 80-100 years ago.
I love that each chair is unique, taller, shorter, wider…. mismatched in
age and style, like the charming guests who frequent the seats. Some
have been repainted and re-upholstered, some have their original
embroidery or wood stain.
I love that you can sit in the room and pretend that you are in a time gone by... I love the large window that looks out onto our front yard where I can see visitors drive up, children play or our grapefruit trees blossom. It’s a special room where I host teas, mother day luncheons, have friends and family and the kids host fancy parties for their chickens (really). We play games in here and have so many wonderful memories sitting around the table in our dining room.

I love your home and every one in it. I love your classy country life. What wonderful stories and memories your children will have to tell about growing up. - Beth Erickson
